Wytheville Technologies

Having occupied its first domestic facility for less than three years, Wytheville Technologies selected H.S. Williams Company to design and build its second manufacturing plant. The Wytheville Technologies Lot 11 building is located within sight of their first Williams’ designed and constructed facility.

The 159,102 square foot facility has many of the characteristics of the first building. The exterior features custom masonry combined with metal panels in the company’s blue and grey colors. The grounds are landscaped extensively and the site is designed to accom- modate a doubling of the plant.

Building services are designed for a flexible and ever changing manufacturing system. The building features generous 50 ft. by 50 ft. bay spacing, a floor finished with a green dry shake hardener and exposed interior surfaces are painted white. Translucent wall panels allow natural light to bathe the manufacturing space. Visitors enter the facility at a porte-cochere featuring a curved blue standing seam roof.

The building has several features not shared by its predecessor. A 22,000 square foot portion of the building is dedicated to metal plating and waste water treatment. The plating and treatment areas are isolated from the manufacturing area by concrete block walls and are protected from airborne corrosion by epoxy coatings. The structure is designed to support roof mounted air emission control equipment.

In order to allow for future business growth, the building features over 15,800 square feet of office, laboratory and employee services space. Four distinct functional areas of the office are linked by a gallery corridor with extensive windows on both the exterior and interior walls. The use of the gallery allows Wytheville Technologies and a sister company to share common office areas while retaining their individual characters and privacy.

The H.S. Williams Company provided all design and construction services for the facility.
