Kollmorgen Corporation is a leading manufacturer of precision motors used in industrial applications. Long a major manufacturing employer in Radford, Virginia, Kollmorgen approached the City in an effort to relocate the company’s engineering and marketing support group from a northeastern location. The H.S. Williams Company was asked to join the City’s team developing a build-to-suit facility in a new business park.
The Kollmorgen Engineering Support Center was designed to meet the immediate needs of the company, provide the flexibility for future growth and serve as a signature building in a new business park. The building consists of three modules: An office module, a central services module with break rooms, and an office module for future growth. The central services module was designed and constructed as a soaring atrium area, allowing space for dramatic hanging displays.
A pre-engineered building system was used for the facility. The central atrium uses a steep pitch factory painted standing seam roof to create a soaring interior space and project a signature architectural image. The two office modules are located on each side of the atrium. These modules have brick and glass walls with a metal facia matching the roof color.
The facility has all the services needed for a modern office including full climate control, fiber optic data lines, and an extensive security system.
The H.S.Williams Company provided all construction services for the project.
