J.J. Haines & Company, headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, is a major distributor of floor covering products in a multi-state area. As part of a reorganization to serve its widespread customer area more efficiently, J.J. Haines retained H.S. Williams Company to design and build its Wytheville distribution center.
The Wytheville distribution center features pre-engineered building systems for both office and warehouse space. The 2,475 square foot office features a full masonry exterior using split-faced and scored custom masonry units. The masonry was painted in colors that both matched the building’s location and complemented company colors. The roofline is hidden from view by a masonry facade that screens roof-mounted heating and air conditioning units from view.
The warehouse features a 29-foot eave height to allow high racking and 10 overhead shipping doors. The building is protected by an extra-sensitive fast response (ESFR) sprinkler system, eliminating the need for in-rack fire protection sprinklers. The fire pump required for the ESFR system is housed in the building, with a direct power feed from the exterior.
The office is air-conditioned. The warehouse uses a floor-mounted gas air rotation heater for even heating throughout the building.
The H.S. Williams Company provided all design and construction services for the project.
