Des Champs Laboratories, Inc. is one of the nation’s leading manufacturers of air to air energy recovery equipment. The company’s primary design and manufacturing facility is now located in the Williams designed and built Natural Bridge, Virginia facility.
The 72,000 square foot main building features 40′ x 50′ bays, a standing seam roof system, a ten-ton bridge crane system and an imaginative masonry and metal exterior. A seperate 8,000 square foot warehouse is located adjacent to the main building.
Intended to serve as design as well as a manufac- turing functions, the plant makes use of 8,800 square feet of mezzanines for corporate offices and design work space. This mezzanine space is in addition to 4,000 square feet of production offices on the first floor. The President’s suite features solid cherry woodwork custom milled for the project, hardwood floors, and a working fireplace.
In order to achieve a look fitting to a dual purpose headquarters/corporate office facility, metal wall panels were used with custom masonry and store- front glass to add to the appearance. Recessed windows framed in metal wall panels are used ex- tensively in the office area. The stairwell to the sec- ond floor offices uses red storefront framing and glass for its entire height, traversing both block and metal. A masonry wainscot using sand and terracotta colored split faced block encircles the structure, adding to its durability and appearance.
